Recruitment of teachers `done transparently'

Candidates will be given choice in postings: Minister

CHENNAI: Over 2,600 candidates have been selected by the Teachers Recruitment Board tofill vacancies across the State, for subjects including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and English.

Important feature

Tamil Nadu Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu said that transparency was the most important feature of this year's recruitment and placement process.

The list of districts and vacancies will be put up at each centre. Teachers can identify their district or neighbouring districts. If the profile of the candidates matched the requirements, they would receive the letter of appointment immediately. If more than one candidate was fit for placement, their ranks will be compared and the teacher with a higher rank will be posted in the district.

"This system works purely on merit and the teachers are given an opportunity to tell us what their preference is. Moreover, since the appointment orders are issued immediately, there is no scope for any intervention," Mr. Thennarasu said.

Issue of donations

The minister also addressed the issue of donations being collected in some schools during admissions.

"Though the Ministry has prescribed a fee structure, some schools seem to be taking donations. Our education officers will identify such schools and immediate action will be taken against them," he said.

Mr. Thennarasu said that he sought the cooperation of parents in this regard.

The minister said that applications seeking registration from 750 nursery and primary schools were pending with the director of school education.

"We will inspect these schools and give recognition to those schools which fulfil our norms," he said.
