CHENNAI . A `Craft Bazaar,' showcasing traditional works of various States, is now under way in the city. Inaugurated by actress Mumtaz on Friday, the exhibition features handlooms, jewellery and home furnishings. In the handloom section, there are churidars from Punjab and Gujarat, Kashmiri tops and Lucknow chikan work and pochampalli textiles. This is besides the brass items from Tamil Nadu. The collection includes black metal from Hyderabad, palm leaf engravings from Orissa, idols, rosewood and shesham wood furniture, stone painting from Jaipur, bags from Gujarat and terracota articles from Kolkata. The exhibition also has a variety of jewellery such as Hyderabad pearls, semi-precious stones, beads, Rajasthani stone jewellery, bangles and gold jewellery. A discount of 20 per cent would be given on handlooms and 10 per cent on handicrafts is being offered. The exhibition is on at Sri Sankara Hall, TTK Road, Alwarpet, till June 26 between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m.
