They push constable and manage to flee, say Malakpet police

HYDERABAD: Six persons, who allegedly escaped from Malakpet police station after being brought there for questioning in pocket-picking cases three days ago, are yet to be traced.

The suspects — Nagarjuna, Ambulu, Chinna, Ravi Kumar, Mohd. Ghouse and Syed Chand Pasha — were reportedly picked up from Dilsukhnagar area while moving under suspicious circumstances.

"During questioning, they admitted to some pocket-picking cases but managed to give the slip by pushing down the sentry constable in the early hours of Thursday," the Malakpet police said. Meanwhile, Kondamma, a relative of the escapees, on Sunday alleged that police took Rs. 50,000 from her for not booking cases against them. "Our relatives later fled the station since the police continued to detain them even after taking money," she charged.

Police deny charge

When contacted, the police brushed aside the allegations saying that there was no need for the police to implicate innocent persons in false cases.

A woman Jayamma, 28, who was allegedly set on fire four days ago by a driver with who she was living after being deserted by her first husband, succumbed to her burns on Sunday. The victim was undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital.

Altered to murder

A resident of Mahankalinagar, the victim told the Kukatpally police that driver Raju doused her in kerosene and set her ablaze on Wednesday in her house.

The police earlier booked an attempt-to-murder case and later altered sections of the law to that of murder following her death.
