Report on Niloufer Hospital sent to NHRC

`Increase in bed strength the need of the hour'

HYDERABAD:
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) former Special Rapporteur K.R. Venugopal has sent a report to the NHRC on the Niloufer Hospital in the city.
The main recommendations made by Mr.Venugopal include upgradation of Niloufer Hospital by increasing the bed strength from existing 350 beds to 500 beds, delinking emergency neonatal intensive care unit from the paediatrics department and setting up a hospital infection control committee headed by the medical superintendent.
`Appoint nurses'
The other recommendations include establishment of a decentralised well coordinated outreach pre-natal educational programme to make available credible health care, appointment of additional 175 nurses and to enhance the morale of the doctors and staff, introducing a higher pay scales while simultaneously enhancing the working hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Empowering the hospital superintendent with adequate powers for enforcing discipline at all levels and immediately providing temporary accommodation to the two RMOs to ensure continuous care and supervision are the other recommendations.
