50-year old woman commits suicide

New Delhi: A 50-year old woman allegedly committed suicide in West Delhi on Sunday, police said.

Neeru Narayanan, who was in the money-lending business, took the extreme step by hanging herself in her Rajouri Garden residence.

Police said she left behind a suicide note according to which she was killing herself as she was very disturbed on being unable to get back Rs. 1 lakh that she had lent.

Cop opens fire

NEW DELHI: A Delhi police personnel posted with the security wing allegedly opened fire following a verbal duel with his colleague at the official residence of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah at 11 Teen Murti Lane in the high-security Chanakyapuri area here on Sunday. No one was reportedly injured in the firing.

It is learnt that the incident took place around 8-30 p.m. after a heated argument between the security personnel, Naresh and Daleep, over the issue of duty hours.

Subsequently, Naresh allegedly opened fire from his service weapon, but Daleep escaped unhurt. Upon hearing the news, senior police officers rushed to the spot.

Later, a case was registered at the Chanakyapuri police station and the accused arrested. His service firearm has been seized.

`Drug peddler' taken

to Kashmir

NEW DELHI: Rauf Ahmed Khan, who was arrested by the Narcotics Branch of the Delhi police on June 15 for allegedly dealing in drugs, has been taken to Kashmir to establish his links with a drug cartel.

According to the police, Rauf, a resident of Pulwama, was taken to Kashmir this past weekend. At his instance, the police are trying to track down the drug supplier. They would also try to find if an indigenous production of heroin is going on in the Valley.

Meanwhile, a hunt is on for Mohammad Amil Malla, driver of the truck in which Rauf and accomplice, Ghulam Qadir Butt, had arrived in the Capital. The two were arrested near Haiderpur water treatment plant in North-West Delhi when they were downloading the drug consignment from the vehicle.

Pirated books seized

NEW DELHI: Over 3,000 pirated books, including the bestseller, "The Da Vinci Code", have been seized by the South-West Delhi police. A young man has been arrested in this connection.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West Delhi) Ravindra Yadav, the District Investigation Unit received information that 19-year-old Amit Kumar had been selling pirated books near a petrol pump at Dhaula Kuan. Subsequently, he was arrested on Saturday.

At his instance, the police recovered the pirated books from his Shakarpur residence in East Delhi.

Man arrested

NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old man allegedly involved in two murder cases was arrested at Rohini in North-West Delhi on June 16. A country-made pistol was recovered from his possession.

The accused, Jagdeep Pal Singh, was arrested when he was riding a stolen motorcycle. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to his involvement in two murder cases reported from Ashok Vihar and Rajender Nagar. He told the police that he had stolen the motorcycle in Punjab.
