Freedom fighters' demand

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The All-India Freedom Fighters' Organisation (AIFFO) has demanded revival of the disbanded Joint Committee and Special Audit Team comprising officials of the Centre and State Governments and freedom fighters to address their grievances.

In a recent memorandum to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, AIFFO president Chaudhari Ranbir Singh demanding reconstitution of the two bodies. He said the two bodies were constituted during the premiership of I.K. Gujral but the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Government at the Centre later dissolved it in 1999.

The memorandum said revival of the two bodies was necessary to decide the pending applications for grant of "Samman Pension" urgently.
