NEW DELHI: Two wanted gangsters involved in cases of murder, attempt-to-murder and kidnapping for ransom were gunned down in an encounter with the Special Cell of the Delhi police at Rohini in North-West Delhi in the early hours of Sunday. Two pistols and live cartridges were purportedly recovered from them. A Special Cell team comprising Inspectors S.K. Giri and Manoj Dixit recently received a tip-off that a gangster named Satish, on whose head the Uttar Pradesh police had announced a reward of Rs. 50,000 and the Delhi police had declared a reward of Rs. 25,000, would come to Rohini Sector 11 to meet his accomplices on Sunday. Subsequently, the police laid a trap near Swarna Jayanti Park. The suspect, along with one of his accomplices, was seen coming in a Maruti Wagon-R. The raiding party intercepted the vehicle and asked the occupants to surrender. However, the two reportedly opened fire at the police and tried to flee. In retaliatory fire, they sustained bullet injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were declared dead on arrival. The deceased were identified as Satish, a resident of Malviya Nagar in South Delhi, and Vijay Pandit, a resident of Gurgaon in Haryana, who carried a reward of Rs. 10,000 on his head. The police claim to have recovered a 9 mm pistol with a magazine and a .30 Chinese pistol from them. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Ajay Kumar, Satish had been absconding since December last after he escaped from the custody of the Haryana police while being taken to Agra. He was involved in over 30 criminal cases.
