MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University is offering four-year degree programmes - B. Tech (Bioinformatics) and B. Tech (Horticulture) -- from this academic year. Application forms for these self-supporting degree programmes should be submitted on or before June 22. The B. Tech (Bioinformatics) course will offer commercial and industrial orientation. Students who had studied physics, chemistry and biology in Plus Two are eligible for admission. The same eligibility is required for students who want to join B. Tech (Horticulture), which will enable students to become entrepreneurs in landscape architecture and designing, turf management, horticulture therapy, land biotechnology, green house construction, vegetable processing, environmental horticulture, supply chain management, organic gardening and certification. They can also become florists, pharma and crop consultants and producers of cut flowers/fruits. K. Ramamoorthy, Dean, Agricultural College and Research Institute, in a press release here on Monday, said application forms for both the degree programmes are available at the agricultural colleges in Coimbatore, Madurai, Killikulam and Tiruchi and at the Agricultural Engineering College, Kumulur, Forest College, Mettupalayam, Horticultural College, Periyakulam, and Urban Horticultural Development Centre in Chennai. The cost of application is Rs.600 (Rs 300 for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates). The forms can be downloaded from the university website, www.tnau.ac.in. Filled in applications should reach the Dean, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore-641 003 on or before June 22.
