Osian's exhibition of memorabilia offers a rare treat

NEW DELHI: Billed as India's first comprehensive exhibition of cinema memorabilia from across the globe, Osian's Archive and Library Collection was inaugurated at India Habitat Centre here over the weekend.

Showcasing vintage film posters, lobby cards, paintings, photographs, costumes and handbills spanning world cinematic history from the late 1920s to the present day, the one-of-its-kind exhibition by Neville Tuli will remain open till June 28.

On display are collectibles portraying film genres such as animated films, blockbusters, the French New Wave, comedies, Westerns, adventure films, thrillers and historic epics.

Timeless classics on display

These include timeless classics such as "Un Chien Andalou", "Quo Vadis", "Viva Zapatta!", "Rebel Without A Cause", "The Seven Year Itch", "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof", "Vertigo", "Ben Hur", "Psycho", "La Dolce Vita" and "Jules Et Jim", besides some of the most sought after ones like "Lawrence of Arabia", "Jungle Book", "Apocalypse Now" and "The Godfather".

Rare original artworks depicting old world charm will bring to life screen icons such as the versatile star Marlon Brando, the towering Clint Eastwood, the legendary Elvis Presley and the trendsetter Marilyn Monroe, besides the timeless Beatles, bronze-built Tarzan and, of course, the charismatic James Bond.

Original inscribed artworks showcased

Also on display are original inscribed artworks from Marlon Brando, Orson Welles' personal archive and a selection of Walt Disney's most loved animated film posters.

Many famous movie posters created by Peter Strausfeld for the Academy Cinema in London from World War II to 1980 are on display. Several of his designs later became London's landmarks.

In keeping with the international theme of the exhibition, posters are featured in an array of languages, including Polish, Japanese, Italian, French and German.
