Focus on bioethics in clinical research

NEW DELHI: Experts from India and the United States will discuss the vital issue of bioethics in clinical research at a three-day workshop beginning here on Tuesday.

Organised jointly by the Indian Council of Medical Research, the Drug Controller-General of India, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the workshop will focus on the need to adopt ethical practices in clinical research.

Children workshop

NEW DELHI: Educational Forum for Women Justice and Social Welfare, a non-government organisation, held the valedictory function of its summer workshop at India Habitat Centre here on Monday.

A large number of children from different schools and social backgrounds took part in the workshop where they were taught computers, painting, dancing and soft-toy making.

Heart patients can benefit from meditation

NEW DELHI: Adult patients with stable coronary heart disease can benefit from meditation as it reduces blood pressure, improves heart rate variability and insulin resistance, said Heart Care Foundation of India president K.K. Aggarwal here on Monday.

Quoting a report published in the Archives of Internal Medicine in the United States, Mr. Aggarwal said a National Institutes of Health study had suggested that all heart patients should learn meditation. "Meditation can modulate a patient's physiological response to stress. Diabetics, high blood pressure and metabolic syndrome patients should also learn meditation."

Water supply disruption

NEW DELHI: Due to inter-connection of pipes carrying raw water to Okhla water works, supply in certain areas of South Delhi will be affected from 10 a.m. on June 21 to 6 a.m. on June 22.

The affected areas include Maharani Bagh, New Friends Colony, Friends Colony, Chittaranjan Park, East of Kailash, Kalkaji, Kalindi, Okhla Village, Okhla Industrial Area, Gobindpuri, Sant Nagar and adjoining areas. Residents have been advised to store sufficient quantities of water in advance. Tankers will also be available at the following phone numbers: 26473720 (Giri Nagar) and 29819035 and 29814106 (Jal Sadan).

Career campaign inaugurated

NEW DELHI: Delhi Employment and Labour Minister Mangat Ram Singhal formally inaugurated the "Choose Your Career Campaign-2006" at Delhi Secretariat on Monday. It has been organised by the Directorate of Employment to provide educational and vocational guidance to school and college students as well as those seeking jobs.
