Sahil Zaroo

granted bail

NEW DELHI : A special court here on Monday granted bail to Sahil Zaroo, co-accused with Rahul Mahajan in the drug abuse case, stating that "there was no justifiable reason to decline bail to him after Mr. Mahajan was granted one."

Special Judge N.K. Gupta ordered Sahil's release on bail upon his furnishing a bond for Rs. 2 lakh with a surety of like amount. He directed Sahil not to tamper with evidence or approach witnesses. He was also asked to surrender his passport within a day of his release to the court concerned and not to leave Delhi and the country without its permission till the charge sheet was filed. However, the judge made it clear that in case of a warrant, he would inform the investigating officer in the drug abuse case about it.The court had reserved the order on Friday on conclusion of arguments by counsel for the prosecution and the accused.

Rahul Mahajan, son of late Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan, was granted bail in the case on June 14.

Dismissing the charge of abetment or of criminal conspiracy against Sahil under Section 29 of the NDPS Act, Mr. Gupta said Chief Public Prosecutor B.S. Joon could not advance any reasonable argument to convince the court that when a case of 27 (A) did not stand against Mr. Mahajan how could the offence of abetment or criminal conspiracy was made out against Sahil.

New clues in girl's suicide case

NEW DELHI: The post-mortem on the body of Neha Kakkar, a 19-year-old student of Jesus and Mary College who allegedly jumped down from the sixth floor of a District Centre at Janakpuri in West Delhi this past week, was conducted at Maulana Azad Medical College on Monday.

While the police are awaiting the post-mortem report, it is learnt that they have come across evidence suggesting that Neha, a resident of A-2 Block Janakpuri, had been in a depressed mood due to a strained relationship with her friend. The day she allegedly committed suicide, she had received an SMS from him on her mobile phone stating that their relationship was over. The police are trying to find if that was the reason for her taking the extreme step.

Neha's father had earlier alleged that she was criminally assaulted before she fell to her death. In view of the allegations, a panel of three doctors was set up to conduct the post-mortem.
