This Day That Age
Prime Minister Nehru will fly to London on June 21 in the newly-acquired Viscount aircraft of the Indian Air Force. This will be the first time when the Viscount will go on a trans-continental flight with the Prime Minister on board. The Indian Air Force had provided the airlift when the Prime Minister visited China in 1954, but the aircraft then used were the VIPs' Dakotas. Leaving Palam on June 21, the Prime Minister's Viscount will be in London the next day, touching en route Jamnagar, Bahrein, Damascus, Athens and Rome. The aircrew will remain in London during the Prime Minister's visit to the US. Mr. Nehru will be flying to Washington from London on July 6 in the US President's plane after attending the Commonwealth Prime Ministers' Conference. The highlights of his 33-day tour will be his meeting with President Eisenhower in Washington and with Marshal Tito and Colonel Nasser at Brioni in Yugoslavia.
