CHENNAI: The Board of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), head- quartered in New York, has announced an extension to the contract of the Chief Executive, Ian Ball, up to December 2009. IFAC, in an announcement posted at its website, recalls that Mr. Ian Ball, who assumed the position of Chief Executive in June 2002, has helped to shape and implement the reforms that have strengthened IFAC standard-setting processes and has worked to enhance IFAC's relationships with international regulatory organisations as well as IFAC's member-bodies, regional accountancy organisations and accounting firms. The announcement quotes IFAC President, Graham Ward, as saying that Mr. Ian Ball's leadership would continue to be available "at this very important time for the international profession". Mr. Ian Ball "has done much to encourage a deeper understanding by key stakeholders and the public of the role of IFAC and its member organisations in promoting quality performance by accountants worldwide", Mr. Ward said. Mr. Ian Ball, according to the announcement, commented that alongside its key objective of achieving convergence to international standards, IFAC would be focusing increased attention on "building accountancy capacity worldwide, developing and promoting the important role of professional accountants in business and promoting sound government financial management and financial reporting".
