SALEM: Collector N. Mathivanan called upon officials to take efforts to create awareness among Adi-dravidas and tribal people on development schemes implemented by the State Government for them. Inaugurating a conference on the economic development schemes for the welfare of the Adi-dravidas and the tribal people organised by the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravida Housing and Development Corporation (TAHDCO) here on Tuesday, he said officials in association with the non-governmental organisations should form committees at district, union and taluk levels for awareness creation. They should also ensure that the benefits of the schemes reached the people properly. He appealed to the Adi-dravidas and the tribal people to take full advantage of the schemes to improve their living standard. Listing out various schemes implemented through the TAHDCO, he said the State Government had allotted about Rs. 110.53 crore to the district for providing a revolving fund to the self-help groups (SHG) of the Adi-dravidas and the tribal people. A maximum sum of Rs. 7.5 lakh would be given as a revolving fund to an SHG-based on its performance and rating. Of which, about Rs. 2.5 lakh would be given as subsidy. Mr. Mathivanan said the State Government had allotted Rs. 63.75 crore for the agriculture land purchase scheme for women, he added. A sum of Rs. 30.93 lakh was allotted to the district to provide vocational training to the educated Adi-dravidas and the tribal youth. TAHDCO had invited applications from the unemployed youth for providing assistance to purchase autorickshaws, he said. The Collector released a booklet containing details of all schemes implemented for the welfare of the Adi-dravidas and the tribal people during the conference. Among those who spoke in the function included District Revenue Officer T.N. Hariharan and Manager TAHDCO P. Meenatchi Sundaram.
