BJP to support Independent candidate

Pondicherry: President of the Pondicherry state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) R. Kesavalu said here on Tuesday that the party would support the Independent candidate and former Health Minister of Pondicherry, V. Pethaperumal who is contesting for the post of chairman of the Oulgaret municipality in Pondicherry.

"We will work hard to ensure his success," Mr. Kesavalu told newsmen. He said that Mr. Pethaperumal had sought the BJP's support and considering his good performance as Health Minister and legislator the BJP decided to support him. The PCC had expelled Mr. Pethaperumal from the Congress on Monday
