Congress criticised for stalling proceedings

Party showing disrespect to the Speaker: Kumaraswamy

  • I am ready to answer all questions on BMIC project: Chief Minister
  • Accuses Congress of being determined to stall proceedings

BANGALORE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Tuesday criticised the Congress for stalling proceedings of the Legislative Assembly over the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project for the second day and said the Opposition party was showing disrespect to the Speaker.

Speaking to presspersons after hosting lunch for them a day after moving to his official residence, `Anugraha,' here, Mr. Kumaraswamy said though he was ready to discuss the issue for all the 20 days of the current legislature session and answer every question in the Assembly, the Congress members were determined to stall the proceedings.

The House could not transact any business on Tuesday as the Congress members continued their dharna demanding that they be allowed to move an adjournment motion on the BMIC project and the statement made by the Chief Minister that attempts had been made to bribe him.

The dharna by the Congress members had lowered the dignity of the Chair, he said, adding that their intention was to disrupt proceedings.

"I am ready for an open and televised debate on the BMIC project to bring out all the facts on the project," Mr. Kumaraswamy reiterated. He appealed to the Congress to cooperate in conducting the business of the House and act as a constructive Opposition party.

Asked about his new residence, which he moved into on Monday, the Chief Minister said it would be open not only for legislators and Ministers but also the people of the State who wanted to meet him to get their grievances redressed.
