Children's homes planned in 570 more districts

To inculcate values, proper attitude

CHENNAI: The All India Movement for Seva (AIM for Seva) proposes to start children's homes in 570 more districts in the country in the next five years, its founder Swami Dayananda Saraswati told reporters here on Tuesday.

A public charitable trust, it is running 50 such homes in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Swami Dayananda Saraswati said the homes were meant to take care of children who would otherwise not have gone to school. At the homes the children would be taught values such as honesty, which was becoming a rare commodity, and proper attitudes. The organisation provided the beneficiaries — children who came from remote areas, orphans and those who did not have a proper atmosphere to study at home — shelter and also sent them to government school so that they could take up jobs after their education.

Dance drama

He said `Punyakoti', a dance drama, would be arranged at the Narada Gana Sabha here on June 25.

The proceeds would go for tsunami rehabilitation projects of AIM for Seva at Kadalur village, near Kalpakkam, in Kancheepuram district. The story revolves around a cow called Punyakoti and sends out the message that truth triumphs.

The Kannada dance drama was directed by Sri Raghavendra J. Prabhat, director, Prabhat Arts International, Bangalore.
