BELLARY: The Bellary District Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum has ordered the National Insurance Company to pay the entire sum assured to an insurance policy holder. G. Sulochana, owner of a tipper, had taken vehicle insurance policy from National Insurance Company. The vehicle met with an accident in August 2004 and Ms. Sulochana claimed Rs. 2.92 lakh from the company. But the company paid Rs. 2.20 lakh based on its assessment of the extent of damage while the policy holder had spent Rs. 2.92 lakh for getting the vehicle repaired. Ms. Sulochana then approached the Consumer Forum for relief. A.A. Hulageri, President of the Forum, and G. Basavaraj, member, after hearing the complainant and the respondent, directed the insurance company to pay the balance amount of Rs. 72,000 with 10 per cent interest, Rs. 2,500 for causing mental agony, Rs. 1,000 for service lapses and Rs. 1,000 towards cost of the appeal.
