U.P. traders to protest against power cuts

KANPUR: Traders from all over Uttar Pradesh would stage a demonstration in the state capital Lucknow on July 11 to protest against the deteriorating power supply in the State.

Trade and industry suffered badly during the last three days with the city facing ten to twelve hours of load-shedding daily and most traders being forced to run generator sets for hours together to meet the power requirement, General secretary of Kanpur Udyog Vyapar Mandal, Mani Kant Jain said on Tuesday.

Traders were demanding at least eight hours power supply from 12 at noon to 9 p.m. but there was regular power cut from morning till 4 p.m. and again in the evening, he said.

Over four dozen transformers were burnt in south area during the last twenty days and the gap in demand and supply of electricity was one of the major factors for power crisis in the city, official sources said.

Members of different political parties have also met the officials of KESCO urging them to normalise the power supply. Yesterday there was a ten-hour power cut in the city's southern area and those affected staged protest at Naubasta, Dabouli and Lal Banglow areas . - PTI
