Sequel to dispute over payment of autorickshaw rentals

HYDERABAD: A dispute over payment of autorickshaw rental charges led to murder of a man in Banjara Hills early on Tuesday.

R. Mallesh, 30, of BJR Nagar in Banjara Hills and his friends were trying to settle a dispute between his brother-in-law Ramu and one Ramanjaneyulu over payment of the rental charges.

A heated argument ensued between the two groups. In a fit of rage, Ramanjaneyulu and his associates allegedly showered blows on Mallesh and fled from the scene.

Mallesh, who suffered injuries, was taken to a nearby private hospital and treated as outpatient.

But, he developed complications at around 5 a.m. and died while being shifted to the hospital.

Inquiries by the police revealed that Ramanjaneyulu used to hire an autorickshaw owned by Ramu.

Ramanjaneyulu was allegedly not paying rental charges for the last few weeks.

Enraged over this, Ramu informed the matter to Mallesh on Monday night. Mallesh, accompanied by Ramu and his friends, went to Ramanjaneyulu's house to settle the issue.

Even as Mallesh was trying to resolve the issue amicably, Ramanjaneyulu and his associates allegedly attacked him, the police said.

Murder case

Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Amit Garg said that a murder case was registered under Section 302 of the IPC.

"We are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the nature of injuries suffered by Mallesh," he said.
