No approval required for repairing houses

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Tuesday said no formal approval was required to carry out repair or renovation work in houses and shops which includes whitewashing or repair of walls, putting fresh roof on houses or re-flooring and construction of sunshades not extending beyond 75 cm from the house.

Similarly, people can reconstruct parts of the house destroyed during a storm, fire, rain or earthquake as per the norms stipulated in the Master Plan and construction of internal partitions provided they meet the requisite norms under building bylaws. This applies to buildings constructed as per sanctioned plan or on those constructed before April 7, 1958, before the civic body was set up.

The MCD has also notified this for the information of the public in general to clarify confusion over reconstruction or renovation of houses or shops in the wake of the new Act granting one-year moratorium on demolition and sealing exercises in the Capital.
