NEW DELHI: Claiming that residents of 110 colonies developed by the Delhi Development Authority were leading a miserable life for lack of civic amenities, the Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded that DDA immediately hand over these colonies to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Informing that Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi, who is also DDA Chairman, has also been requested to personally look into the matter, senior BJP Councillor Vijender Gupta on Tuesday alleged that due to DDA's indifferent attitude people living in these 110 colonies were suffering as the agency had failed to hand over these colonies to MCD for providing civic services. According to Mr. Gupta, at a meeting between the then Municipal Commissioner and the then DDA Vice-Chairman in November 1996 it was decided that disputes of deficiency charges (money given to MCD by DDA for renovation and other civic works at the time of handing over of colonies) should be referred to the Delhi Chief Secretary.

"Due to the lethargic attitude of DDA, 140 colonies that were to be transferred are still with DDA, while people living in these colonies continue to suffer as neither DDA nor MCD is providing necessary civic services including sanitation, road and sewerage maintenance," he said, adding that it was only after a long agitation that 30 colonies of the Rohini zone were transferred recently to MCD.
