Rajahmundry: Rajahmundry, one of the hottest places in the State, has begun getting cool with thundershowers covering the city in an effect of trough of low pressure in the west central Bay of Bengal. People of Rajahmundry and other parts of East Godavari districts felt relieved on Wednesday as rain lashed the city for about two hours from 6.30 a.m.
Many areas inundated
As usual, the low-lying areas of Tummalava, Aryapuram, Sambhunagar, ILTD Junction and railway station road of the city were inundated by rain and sewage water. However, sanitary officials and workers brought the situation to normal after the workers removed silt logged in drainage pipes and canals.
Sigh of relief
When mercury touched 45 degrees the last week, people thought that the monsoon would come late and they would have to suffer for one more week. However, from Tuesday night rain, along with heavy winds and thunders, gave temporary relief to people. After the irrigation department had let out Godavari water to Central, Eastern and Western deltas, farmers in and round the district had been sowing seeds for kharif while the farmers of upland areas had grown red gram and green gram. A large number of nursery farmers in Kadiam and Kadiapu lanka expressed happiness over the torrential rain.
