PONDICHERRY : The ruling Congress party has not officially announced the names of its candidates for the civic polls so far. The DMK, the PMK and the CPI have already announced the names of their nominees. But the Congress has kept everyone guessing. The DMK has fielded candidates for the posts of chairpersons of Pondicherry and Karaikal Municipal councils. The posts are reserved for women from the general category. The AIADMK and other parties too have announced their candidates. The Congress has not given any explanation for the non-release of the lists though its candidates are already in the fray. Civic poll campaigns are generally low key though at the commune panchayat level the candidates have intensified their efforts. Major political parties are keento put in an impressive performance, to strengthen the party in the Assembly constituencies under which the municipalities fall.
