Students take out rally to mark World Child Rights Day

Elocution contest, street play organised

Belgaum: A rally was taken out by students of different colleges, including teachers' training centres, on the occasion of World Child Rights Day here on Wednesday.

The rally was organised by Grameen Abhivruddhi Samsthe, Belgaum, in cooperation with different government departments, including Education, District Literacy Campaign Committee, Women and Child Development, Zilla Panchayat, Health and Family Welfare, Kannada and Culture, the Sagar College of Education and voluntary organisations such as Spandana.

Oath-taking ceremony

The rally was preceded by an oath-taking ceremony, which was administered by Sri Gurusidda Swamiji of Karanji Math. Deputy Commissioner Shalini Rajneesh and senior officials were present.

Prizes were given to winners of the elocution competition on the topic `Child Rights' organised as part of the function.

Winners of the first three prizes are Uttam S.K. studying in class 10 of S.V.M. High School; Akshata U. Naik of class 9, Svadhyaya Vidya Mandir High School, and Netravati S. Patil of class 10, Government High School (both second); Sneha Shetiya of class 9, M.V.H. English Medium High School, and Akshata S. of class 10, S. Vidya Mandir (both third).

The students' rally passed through the main roads of Belgaum and culminated at the Deputy Commissioner's Office compound where they staged a street play.
