Probe into property tax evasion by societies

BANGALORE: Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Basavaraj S. Horatti assured the Legislative Council on Wednesday that the Government would ask the Secretary of the Department of Cooperation to conduct an inquiry into the reported loss of revenue owing to stamp duty and property tax evasion by four housing cooperative societies in Bangalore. Responding to a question from Basavaraja Bommai of the Janata Dal (United), Mr. Horatti said he would ask the authorities concerned to submit a report in a month.

Audit report

on temple received

BANGALORE: The Government has received a special audit report on the financial affairs of Kollur Sri Mookambika Temple, Minister for Medical Education V.S. Acharya told the Legislative Council on Wednesday. He said the Government was studying the report and would not hesitate to take action if lapses were found. — Staff Reporter

Groundnuts seeds distributed

BANGALORE: Agriculture Minister Bandeppa Kashempur on Wednesday said in the Legislative Assembly that 11,100 quintals of groundnut seeds had been stocked in Pavagada taluk, and 10,050 quintals distributed among farmers, through the Karnataka Oilseeds Corporation in the taluk. The Minister said the demand for groundnut seeds was high because of drought. — Staff Reporter

HDMC Administrator appointed

HUBLI: M.S. Srikar, Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad district, has been appointed administrator of the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC). The term of the members of the council expired on June 18. Mr. Srikar has assumed office. — Staff Correspondent

Funds for flood relief misused: Yatnal

BIJAPUR: Basanagouda R. Patil Yatnal, Bijapur MP, on Wednesday alleged that there was large-scale misappropriation of the funds released for providing flood relief. Addressing a press conference here, he urged the Government to order a high-level probe immediately. The relief did not reach most of the flood-affected people, he said and added that he had brought the matter to the notice of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. Referring to the drive to clear encroachments here, he said structures built by the poor were demolished and the buildings of influential persons left untouched.

`Reserve SEZ jobs

for local people'

MANGALORE: Former Transport Minister Ramanath Rai said here on Wednesday that 70 per cent of jobs generated in special economic zones (SEZs) should be reserved for the local people affected by the projects, 20 per cent for people from the State, and the rest for professionally qualified candidates. He told presspersons that the Government would be urged to acquire an additional 500 acres of land for the Mangalore SEZ. — Staff Correspondent

NCERT scholarship

MYSORE: The Gyanvikas Academy has commenced weekend classroom training programme for the benefit of 10th standard students aspiring for NCERT scholarship. The first level of examination for the scholarship will be held in November by DSERT, Bangalore. Students, who are studying in 10th standard are eligible. MYSORE: The JSS Polytechnic for the Physically Handicapped has invited applications from physically handicapped students for admission to its short-term courses. MYSORE: The Mysore chapter of the Family Planning Association of India (FPAI), in association with Rotary Mysore Midtown, will organise a free training programme in sewing and handicrafts for women. Restrictions near examination centres

HUBLI: As competitive examinations for the posts of junior assistant and second division clerk will be conducted by the Karnataka Public Service Commission in Hubli-Dharwad on June 25, restrictions have been imposed

in a radius of 200 metres at 31 examination centres in the twin cities. Narayan Nadamani, Police Commissioner, Hubli-Dharwad, has also ordered closure of photostat centres around these centres during the examination, a release said. — Staff Correspondent
