ANANTAPUR: Congress has bagged one ZPTC and several MPTC seats in the district unanimously, as its candidates were lone contestants left in the fray after withdrawal of nominations on Wednesday. In all, 204 candidates were left in the fray for 62 ZPTCs, excluding the lone Congress candidate for Yellanuru ZPTC seat. The ruling party has also won several MPTC seats unopposed all over the district with a few also going into the kitties of TDP and CPI. P. Bala Polerappa of Congress won the Yellanuru ZPTC seat unanimously as he was the lone candidate left in the fray after withdrawal of nomination papers. The TDP nominee for the seat quit the fray on Tuesday. According to the information reaching here, Congress bagged 12 out of 15 MTPC seats in Tadipatri mandal, four in Putlur, five in Pedda Pappur, two in Dharmavaram rural, three in Roddam and seven in Yellanuru unopposed. Similarly, TDP candidates were unanimous in three MPTCs of Pedda Pappur mandal, two in Yellanuru and one each in Dharmavaram rural, Anantapur rural and Kanekal. CPI also bagged one MPTC in Yellanuru mandal unopposed. Meanwhile, Congressmen allegedly attacked TDP leaders of Tadimarri mandal when the latter went to submit the B-forms of their MPTC candidates to the mandal parishad office. The B-forms snatched initially from TDP men were given back enabling their submission. TDP leaders including its ZPTC candidate Gopal, Keshava Reddy, Ramanaiah and others went to the mandal office, when Congressmen led by Dharamavaram Agriculture Market Committee Chairman T. Chandrasekhara Reddy, Palyam Ramana and Pedda Obulesu attacked them. In a complaint lodged with Additional SP G. Vijaykumar here, Mr. Gopal alleged that they were kicked and beaten up by the Congressmen and also abused in the name of caste.
Suicide attempt
In another incident, one Venkateswara Chowdary (32), son of sitting TDP MPP from Bathalapalli Satyanarayana, allegedly attempted suicide by consuming pesticide against his father's decision to join Congress. He was admitted to the General Hospital here and was later shifted to Bangalore as his condition was critical. Penukonda legislator Paritala Sunita consoled the family by visiting the hospital here. The seat-sharing adjustment between Congress and CPI finalised on Tuesday left three ZPTC and 40 MPTC seats to the latter.
