Police, Maoists exchange fire

MAHABUBNAGAR: There was exchange of fire between the police and activists of CPI(Maoists) on Wednesday near Earlapenta village under Lingala police station limits. According to information reaching here, a group of armed naxalites noticed a special police party combing the area at 3 p.m. and opened fire.

The police too retaliated. After fierce battle for some time the naxalites managed to escape. There were no casualties. Meanwhile, Maoists released five of the seven villagers whom they picked up Bommanapally village under Achempet police station limits on Tuesday after thrashing them severly.

The remaining two are still in their captivity.
