Malini Ramani allowed to go abroad

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday allowed socialite Malini Ramani, a key witness in the Jessica Lal murder case, to visit South Africa's capital Durban to take part in a fashion show being organised there between June 20 and 27.

Allowing her plea to visit that country to participate in the "MTN Durban Fashion Week", Vacation Judge Gita Mittal asked Ms. Ramani to furnish a personal bond of Rs. 5 lakhs to the High Court Registry.

Ms. Mittal also directed Ms. Ramani's parents -- Bina Ramani and George Melhot -- to surrender their passports to ensure the return of the petitioner to the country in compliance of the Court directive.

The High Court has been hearing a petition by Malini and Bina Ramani seeking quashing of "look-out circulars' issued by the Delhi police against the two to prevent them from leaving the country.

The High Court had permitted her to visit the United States in May to take part in an exhibition there.
