ASSUMES CHARGE: Krishnappa Poojary who took over as the new Commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation on Wednesday.
MANGALORE: Commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation P. Chandrappa was shifted as Commissioner of Mangalore Urban Development Authority on Wednesday. Mangalore Urban Development Authority Commissioner Krishnappa Poojary has assumed charge as Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner. The change came in the wake of a standoff between Dr. Chandrappa and Mangalore Mayor K. Ashraf over the issue of eviction of petty shops. Mr. Ashraf had tried to stop Dr. Chandrappa from evicting petty shops from the market place during the drive in Mangalore on Monday.
Resentment
Dr. Chandrappa had resented the way in which Mr. Ashraf conducted himself and used un-parliamentary words against him and his crew during the eviction operation. The matter had gone up to the Deputy Commissioner and following his report, it was under the consideration of the Government before Wednesday's development.
