BANGALORE: The Yelahanka New Town police have arrested 14 members of an inter-State gang, who were involved in five dacoities, four robberies and 11 burglaries, including that at the house of senior IPS officer Sharath C. Saxena. The police have recovered two kg of silver articles and 870 grams of gold ornaments jewellery estimated at Rs. 8.20 lakh. The police were yet to recover Rs. 4 lakh in cash the gang had looted from Mr. Saxena's house near Jakkur, the outgoing Police Commissioner Ajai Kumar Singh told presspersons on Wednesday. The gang had committed crime in HAL, Hoskote, Whitefield, Subramanyapura and Yelahanka New Town police station limits, he said. The names of the arrested were given as Raju (32), Dileep alias Kavva (22), Silly (20), Pappu (20), Bhattan (19), Anil (18), Ballu (21), Bablu (22), Manoj (20), Thithi (18), Bikki (18), Suneer Singh (20), Sandeep (18), and Jesu (18). While most of the arrested are from Madhya Pradesh, some are from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Malini Krishna Murthy said the gang was apprehended on the night of June 19 when it was planning to commit dacoity at Veerasagara. The gang has about 30 members and the police are on the lookout for the others. Dr. Singh gave a reward of Rs. 10,000 to the team that arrested the gang. Meanwhile, Dr. Singh said in the past few days, including the Yelahanka New Town case, the city police have arrested 57 people involved in 51 cases and recovered gold and silver jewellery, vehicles and mobile phones, all estimated at Rs. 48 lakh. Dr. Singh returned some of the recovered gold jewellery to their owners.
23 arrested
The South Zone police have arrested 23 persons and recovered four cars, eight two-wheelers, 34 mobile phones, gold jewellery and cattle, all estimated at Rs. 13.16 lakh, solving 22 cases. The Magadi Road police have arrested Mahesh (18) of Nagamangala taluk in Mandya district on charges of vehicle theft and recovered from him five motorcycles, together estimated at Rs. 2 lakh. The accused had stolen the vehicles from Yeshwanthpur, Jayanagar, Mandya and Nagamangala police station limits, the police said.
Four bikes recovered
In another case, the Mahalakshmi Layout police have arrested two youths and recovered gold ornaments and four two-wheelers, all estimated at Rs. 2.50 lakh. The accused had committed thefts in Mahalakshmi Layout, Nandini Layout, Subramanyanagar and Peenya police station limits, they said. In another case, the Peenya police arrested Narasimha Murthy (24) of Nagasandra Colony on charge of burglary and recovered from him gold jewellery estimated at Rs. 2 lakh. The Sheshadripuram police have arrested five persons on charges of theft and recovered from them gold jewellery and four mobile phones, all estimated at Rs. 1.1 lakh.
