BANGALORE: Bangalore's new Police Commissioner Neelam Achuta Rao on Wednesday said continuing the good programmes initiated by his predecessors would be his priority. After taking charge from Ajai Kumar Singh, Mr. Rao told presspersons that he would improve these programmes and modify them according to requirements. Mr. Rao said as it was his maiden posting in the city and he would first understand the issues before taking decisions. "However, not working in the city earlier is not a constraint as I know the problems of Bangalore as a citizen and as a policeman. I am not a novice to Bangalore and the Police Department," he said. To a question, he said the city police were well equipped to prevent and contain terrorist activities and they would take timely measures, depending on the intelligence reports. Mr. Rao said he would review the investigations into the terrorist attack on the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and take steps to apprehend the gunman who had opened fire on the campus, killing a scientist and injuring four others. After handing over charge, Dr. Singh said Mr. Rao had "clear mind" and was known for his "systematic working." He said the investigation into the IISc. attack was most challenging work he came across during his one-year tenure as the Police Commissioner.
