`BMP not collecting tax dues'

Bangalore: The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has failed to collect property tax running into crores of rupees from some owners in the city, A.H. Basavaraju (Bharatiya Janata Party), Leader of the Opposition in BMP Council, has said.

Mr. Basavaraju said the BMP had taken hundreds of crores of rupees as loans every year to provide amenities to citizens while property taxes estimated at Rs. 6 crore remained to be collected from three buildings in the city.

He said three business establishments on Kempe Gowda Road, Shiva Enterprises on Dharmambudhi Tank Bund Road and Diamond District complex in Jeevanbima Nagar owed Rs. 75 crore together to the BMP.

Mr. Basavaraju said these buildings had been utilising all the facilities provided by the BMP for several years.
