Five Bangladeshi nationals arrested
In the wake of a spate of burglary cases in government quarters at Lodhi Colony, Sarojini Nagar, Sadiq Nagar and Sarita Vihar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi) Anil Shukla had recently directed the Special Staff to track down the culprits. Accordingly, a team led by Inspector Rajender Singh zeroed in on some suspects and learnt that they would gather near Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Tuesday to plan a burglary. The police laid a trap and arrested five of them, identified as Masoom, Akram, Sarik-Ul, Safiq-Ul and Mohammad Kamal, all residents of Bangladesh. During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in at least 14 cases. They were living at Seemapuri and Sarai Kale Khan. At their instance, the police allegedly recovered stolen television, camera, jewellery and other articles. According to the police, Masoom was the gang leader. He had earlier been arrested for his alleged involvement in about 50 cases of burglary and was released from jail about two months ago. His accomplice, Akram, had been convicted in four cases for which he spent two years in jail. Safiq has also been convicted in two cases. The accused used to send most of the stolen articles to their relatives in Bangladesh through their agents operating on the Indo-Bangladesh border.
