NEW DELHI: The Delhi police on Thursday withdrew their application seeking court permission for conduct of narco-analysis tests on Rahul Mahajan and co-accused Sahil Zaroo in the drug abuse case.

Chief public prosecutor B.S. Joon informed special judge S.N. Gupta that the investigating agency would not press the request for narco-analysis testsat this stage but it would persist with the plea for brain mapping tests.

Hearing adjourned

Mr. Gupta adjourned the hearing on the application for brain mapping till June 24.

Mr. Mahajan, seeking a modification of bail conditions, urged the court to allow him to stay in Mumbai as he had been asked to vacate his father, the late BJP leader, Pramod Mahajan's 7 Safdarjung Road residence here. Moreover, he said, he was required to stay in Mumbai to take care of his grandmother, a heart patient.

Taking his application on record, Mr. Gupta directed the police to file a reply by June 24.

While granting bail, Mr. Gupta had directed Mr. Mahajan not to leave Delhi without court permission until the charge sheet was filed.

Mumbai Staff Reporter reports:

Meanwhile, Sahil was brought from New Delhi to Mumbai, where a local court remanded him to police custody till June 27 in a case of sale of shahtoosh shawls, which is banned in India. Sahil's family owns shops selling Kashmiri handicrafts, one of which is in a five-starhotel here. It was raided this March after a non-governmental organisation tipped off the police that shahtoosh shawls were kept in the shop. The Mumbai police claim that Sahil tried to escape with two shawls. He is charged with offences punishable under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty) and 380 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code.

The other accused, his uncle Rafiq Mohammed and shop employee Ilyas Khan, are out on bail. The prosecution has moved for cancellation of their bail.

Sahil's bail application may come up for hearing on June 27.
