Naxals torch RTC bus

KHAMMAM: Naxalites of the CPI (Maoist) burnt the RTC bus which was on its way from Jagadalpur to Hyderabad near Erraboru village in Chhatisgarh in the early hours of Thursday. Naxalites forced the occupants and crew of the inter-state service to get down before resorting to the act in protest against the killing of Khammam district committee secretary Jagadeesh and his wife in the Edugurallapalli encounter. Two Congress activists hurt in bomb attack

KURNOOL: Two Congress supporters were hurt when a rival group hurled country bombs at them at Gudekal near Yemmiganur in Kurnool district on Thursday.

Suseelaiah and Kasimaiah were coming to Yemmiganur town in the early hours when they were attacked with sickles and crude bombs. They were believed to be responsible for strengthening the party in the village after a long gap. - Staff Reporter

10 extremists give police the slip?

ADILABAD: Some 10 extremists were believed to have escaped Thursday's exchange of fire between the special police party and Maoists near Mamidigattu village in Mandamarri under Ramakrishnapuram police station limits in Adilabad district.

According to the police, the exchange of fire took place at 6 a.m. as policemen combing the area came across the Maoists camping there. An olive green uniform, a pair of shoes, a water can and a cap were recovered from the spot. - Staff Reporter

Police unearth two arms dump

HYDERABAD: Two arms dumps of the CPI (Maoist) were unearthed by the police on Thursday in a joint operation on Chhattisgarh borders.

A press release by the DGP office said that the dumps had 20 kg of explosives, 50 detonators, a bundle of wire, four camera flashes and party literature. They also contained 900 kg rice, 250 kg dal, 120 kg sugar, 50 kg tamarind and 30 litres of cooking oil. - Special Correspondent

Woman killed as bus falls into ditch

KURNOOL: One person was killed died and 12 others were hurt when a RTC bus fell into a ditch near Yemmiganur in Kurnool district on Thursday.

According to reports, the bus bound for Mantralayam from Vijayawada fell into the roadside ditch while negotiating a curve. Kempe Rajamma of Mysore died in the accident. The injured persons were admitted to hospitals at Yemmiganur and Kurnool. - Staff Reporter

Naxals release two Bommanapally villagers

MAHABUBNAGAR: Family members of Renaiah and Yadaiah heaved a sigh of relief when naxalites released them on Wednesday night. The two were among seven persons who were picked up by naxalites on Tuesday from Bommanapally village under Achempet police station limits. Five of them were released in the morning.

APPSC selections

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) has provisionally selected 14 candidates for the post of Assistant Engineer in Roads and Buildings Department's Subordinate Service. The selection is through a written test on April 23 and 24 and oral test on December 16 and 20, 2005.

A notification by the commission on Thursday said 35 candidates were selected Deputy Inspector, Survey and Land Records, in the Survey and Land Records Sub-Service. - Special Correspondent

Woman's suicide

leads to tension

KURNOOL: Tension prevailed at Kulumala near Gonegandla in Kurnool district on Thursday following the suicide by K. Laxmi, 48. The woman jumped into the well and ended her life. Villagers resorted to rasta roko accusing the staff of Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) of being responsible for the death. They alleged that the staff was harassing the woman's family for repayment of term loan. - Staff Reporter

Srisailam temple

worker suspended

KURNOOL: Srisailam temple authorities suspended a worker, Danaiah, on the charges of negligence in burying the carcass of a cow. In a statement, temple Executive Officer Madhava Setti said instead of the burying the carcass as per the tradition at Srisailam, the worker abandoned it in the forest. The cow died due to illness in the "goshala" of the temple. - Staff Reporter

Harikrishna to

tour Anantapur

HYDERABAD: Former Minister Nandamuri Harikrishna who re-joined the Telugu Desam Party has announced a whirlwind, two-day tour of Anantapur district to campaign for the Panchayat Raj elections. A party release said Mr. Harikrishna would tour Gooty, Tadipatri, Uravakonda, Rayadrug, Kalyandrug, Singanamala and Anantapur on June 24 and address nine public meetings. On June 25, he will touch Anantapur, Penukonda, Dharmavaram, Kadiri, Nallamada, Gorantla, Hindupur, Madakasira and Penukonda and address 14 public meetings. - Staff Reporter

SV engineering college

to reopen on June 26

TIRUPATI: SV University has announced that its College of Engineering (SVUCE) will be reopened after summer vacation on June 26 (Monday) for the academic year 2006-07 and that the class work for II, III, IV B.Tech students will commence from that date.

WARANGAL: Niagara Consulting Group Inc., Hyderabad is visiting the University of Arts & Science College, Kakatiya University in Subedari on Saturday, June 24 to recruit management trainees for working in the night shift for a multinational company, according to principal G Srinivas Reddy. The company is looking for fresh and immediate post-graduates with good communication skills. Interested students can attend the campus recruitment at the college premises from 9.30 a.m. onwards. - Staff Reporter

Scholarships

WARANGAL: As part of its community services, Godavari Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited (GFCL) proposes to award meritorious scholarships to the poor students in the district. GFCL regional manager K Satyanarayana and deputy DEO A. Madan Mohan Reddy says that they will identify 60 students, two from each of the 30 Zilla Parishad schools in rural areas and those securing first and second ranks in Class IX will be awarded financial assistance of Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 1,500 per annum. The scholarship will be given in two instalments - the first on August 15 and second on January 26. -Staff Reporter

NRI's gesture

WARANGAL: Jawahar Kesari, a NRI donated Rs. 1 lakh to the Kakatiya University for the development of Centre for English Language and Training. He was a former student of Warangal Regional Engineering College and now working in United States. He met the Vice- Chancellor in Detroit during his recent visit to the USA.- Staff Reporter
