HYDERABAD: After all the furore it created and initial hiccups it went through, `The Da Vinci Code' is being released in a lone theatre in the State - Prasads IMAX in the Capital City - on Friday.

Sony Pictures, the film's distributors, after facing legal hurdles and protests from the Christian community and the clergy, were faced with yet another hurdle after the Andhra Pradesh High Court's Wednesday verdict lifting the ban on the film - unavailability of theatres to screen the film!

Packed schedules

"We were faced with packed schedules in all the major theatres. Several big blockbusters are being released this Friday and the theatres were already engaged," the company's marketing head for Andhra Pradesh, said here on Thursday.

GO awaited

The English version of the film will be screened at Prasads IMAX. "We will release the film in other theatres as soon as the congestion eases, perhaps in the beginning of the next week," he clarified.

However, some of the theatre managements maintained that they were awaiting a Government Order on the matter for screening the film and packed schedules were no hindrance for screening the film, that has been raking in the moolah all over the globe. Meanwhile, the focus shifts to Chennai where the case is coming up for hearing in the Tamil Nadu High Court on Friday.

Telugu version opposed

Meanwhile, members of the National Congress of Indian Christians (NCIC) met the Special Chief Secretary (Home) Paul Bhuyan and expressed their unhappiness over the Government's presentation of the case with regard to the film, `The Da Vinci Code.' They also opposed the Telugu version of the movie.

The St. Joseph's Cathedral Parishioners Association also demanded that the State Government appeal against the High Court judgement favouring release of the film in the State.
