Cyclist dies in

road accident

TIRUCHI: Kandan, a cyclist, died after he was knocked down by a tractor on the Tiruchi-Chennai national highway at C.R. Palayam near Siruganur on Wednesday. The tractor driver Subramanian was arrested.

In another incident, a tipper lorry fatally knocked down Periyasamy (40) at Micheinayakkanpatti near Kattuputhur on Wednesday.

Anti-socials held

Continuing their drive against anti-social elements, the Tiruchi Rural Police arrested eight "rowdies" at different places coming under Thiruverambur police station limits on Wednesday.

Those arrested were Jeyaraj, Raja, Selvam, Nithyanantham, Thavasi, Vivekanandan, Seeralan and Gopi. They were all held on the charge of extorting money at knifepoint.

Mettur level

The water level at the Mettur dam stood at 107.34 feet on Thursday.

The inflow was 3,502 cusecs and the outflow 12,000 cusecs. — Staff Reporter
