Bag containing cash, cellphone snatched

A car driver targets a woman waiting to hire an autorickshaw

BANGALORE: A car driver made away with a woman's bag containing Rs. 5,000 in cash and a mobile phone in Rajarajeshwarinagar police station limits on Wednesday night.

The police said that around 10 p.m., Umavathi, a resident of Hosakerehalli Main Road, was waiting for an autorickshaw near the Rajarajeshwari temple to reach her house.

A car driver approached her and offered her a lift to Mysore Road. As Umavathi kept her bag in the car and was about to board it, the driver sped away, the police said. On a complaint by Umavathi, the Rajarajeshwarinagar police have registered a case.

Fire at studio

Fire broke out in a studio on 5th Main, Ganganagar, around 9.30 a.m. on Thursday. Equipment worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in the fire, which suspected to have been caused by electric short circuit, the police said. Two fire tenders rushed to the spot and put out the fire. The R.T. Nagar police have registered a case.

Arrested

The City Market police have arrested Kantharaju of Kadirenahalli in Banashankari on a charge of burglary and recovered from him 161 grams of gold jewellery, wristwatches, and mobile phones, all estimated at Rs. 1.50 lakh. The accused was released from the jail on June 1. On June 14, he burgled a house in Kadirenahalli and made away with valuables.

He was caught while trying to sell stolen ornaments in the City Market, the police said. Kantharaju was earlier involved in 32 cases and had committed crimes in Kumaraswamy Layout, Banashankari, Girinagar, Basavanagudi and Subramanyanagar police stations limits, they said.
