Alleged sex racket busted in Uttaranchal

Staff Correspondent

DEHRA DUN: Police claim to have busted an inter-State sex racket with the arrest of nine persons.

They allegedly include Anand Suman Singh, member of the Uttaranchal Literature and Arts Council, and Stella, the alleged kingpin.

The accused were produced in court on Friday and remanded to 14 days' judicial custody. According to police officers, they had raided and arrested the girls hailing from Delhi along with four local men from a house in the Patel Nagar area. Soon the Station House Officer of the police station began getting telephonic threats of "strict action" if he did not release the arrested persons.

On verification the man giving out the threats turned out to be Dr. Suman, it was alleged.

The gang was said to be supplying call girls from Delhi to some powerful persons in Dehra Dun and Hardwar over the past several years.

Expressing anguish over involvement of persons holding high offices in heinous acts, the Bharatiya Janata Party spokesman here demanded a CBI probe to find out the involvement of others in the racket.
