19 candidates in fray for one ward in Karaikal

This is the highest number of contestants in a ward

Pondicherry: Nineteen candidates (six party candidates and 13 Independents) are in the fray for the Puliankottai Salai ward ( general category) in Karaikal. This is the highest number of contestants in the entire Karaikal municipal elections.

The region has 18 municipal wards in which 116 candidates are contesting the civic polls.

Karaikal, Yanam and Mahe regions go to the polls on Saturday.

The DMK, the two Communist parties, Puduchery Munnetra Congress, AIADMK and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam have fielded their candidates in the ward.

There are five candidates (three party-sponsored and two Independents) contesting for the post of chairperson of Karaikal Municipality.
