Hari dumps Mamedyarov

NEW DELHI: P. Hari Krishna produced a brilliant attack to destroy twice World junior champion Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and registered his first victory in the sixth round of the Aerosvit 2006 International Grandmasters chess tournament in Foros, Ukraine, on Thursday.

In a fine seven-move sequence, Hari ripped open Mamedyarov's kingside and won in 32 moves when the Azerbaijan's youngster gave up. Hari's victory took his tally to 2.5 points.

The results (sixth round): Liviy-Dieter Nisipeanu (Rom, 2.5) bt Alexander Areshchenko (Ukr, 2); Andrei Volokin (Ukr, 3.5) bt Alexei Shirov (Esp, 3); Vioral Bologan (Mol, 4) lost to Sergei Rublevsky (Rus, 4.5); Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukr, 2) drew with Veselin Ivanchuk (Ukr, 3.5); Sergei Karjakin (Ukr, 2) drew with Alexander Grischuk (Rus, 3.5); P. Hari Krishna (Ind, 2.5) bt Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Aze, 3).
