NEW DELHI: The Oversight Committee set up by the Government to monitor reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in central educational institutions has decided to call off the national colloquium it had planned to draw expert views on the implementation of the reservation policy. The decision to call off the colloquium planned for July 3 was taken after the Oversight Committee was told to stick to its mandate of preparing a roadmap for implementing OBC reservation without eating into the general category and how best to maintain their standards so that the quality of education is not diluted by the increase in student intake. Apparently, sections of the Government felt the colloquium would be an exercise in futility as the Committee backed by five sub-groups was broad-based enough to gather ample inputs to prepare the roadmap.
