NDPL conducts raids, detects major theft

Offenders have been imposed penalty amounting to Rs. 2 crores

    NEW DELHI: The enforcement wing of North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL) has conducted massive raids on power thieves in various industrial areas uncovering theft of 1,200 KW load. The offenders have been imposed penalty charges amounting to Rs.2 crores.

    In one of the biggest catches, a plastic moulding industry, Power Steels in the Lawrence Road Industrial Area at Keshav Puram, was allegedly found stealing 387 KW of power by tampering with the meter. The industry operating with a number of plastic moulding machines, ovens, heaters and compressors is likely to face a penalty of over Rs. 83 lakhs.

    In another big catch in an industrial unit, Sound Craft Enterprises in the Naraina Industrial Area, the raiding team found that the owner had tampered with one phase of his three-phase meter slowing it down by 40 per cent. He was booked for a load of 53 KW and is likely to face a penalty of more than Rs.11 lakhs.

    During the drive, the NDPL enforcement team booked 21 commercial establishments for a total connected load of 76 KW in Kamla Nagar, Azadpur, Rana Pratap Bagh, Wazirpur, DSIDC Narela and Sultanpuri.

    These establishments were allegedly found stealing power by hooking or tampering with their meters.

    In the domestic category, 81 consumers were booked in Sectors 9, 11, 13, 15, and 16 of Rohini, Kamla Nagar, Rana Pratap Bagh, Adarsh Nagar, Model Town, Shastri Nagar, Poothkalan village and Nariana Vihar. Most of the consumers in this category had used deliberate means to tamper their meters. These consumers stealing 264 KW of power are likely to face penalties amounting to Rs.28.9 lakhs.

    In other raids by NDPL in slum cluster Suraj Park and slum cluster Lal Bagh, about 700 illegal hookings were removed. The residents of these colonies were allegedly found to be stealing around 150 KW of power by hooking from the NDPL low voltage lines.
