Cops promoted

NEW DELHI: Two sub-inspectors posted with the Special Cell of the Delhi police were promoted out of turn on Friday for their role in anti-terrorist operations and elimination of a gangster.

Sub-Inspector Rajpal Dabas was promoted for his investigative skills that led to the arrest of two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants and liquidation of three others in an encounter on March 5 last year. Three AK series assault rifles, 6 magazines, 100 kg of dynamite, four hand grenades and a satellite phone were recovered during the operation.

Sub-Inspector Ved Prakash has been promoted to the rank of Inspector for having shown exemplary courage during an encounter with a gangster named Janamjay at Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. The gangster was killed in the encounter.

Crash course organised

NEW DELHI: A two-week "Law Entrance crash course" organised by the Delhi University Students' Union at the Faculty of Mathematical Science here ended on Friday. This was the third such course organised by DUSU in as many years. The programme's convenor, Ranjan Kumar, said 100 students had enrolled for the free crash course.

Sacrifices made by Soviet people hailed

NEW DELHI: The Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) and the India-Russia Friendship Society jointly organised a function here at RCSC's premises on Thursday to commemorate the sacrifices made by the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War. Speakers paid rich tributes to the Soviet people and army who sacrificed their lives in the service of their nation.

A documentary photo exhibition, "Hard Days of the Great War", was inaugurated

at the function.

Healthy lifestyle vital

NEW DELHI: A healthy diet and lifestyle are vital to keep cardiovascular diseases at bay, according to the American Heart Association.

Endorsing it with slight modifications, Heart Care Foundation of India president K.K. Aggarwal said the new recommendations replace guidelines issued in 2000.

"The best way to lower cardiovascular risk is to combine physical activity with heart-healthy eating habits, coupled with weight control and avoiding tobacco

products. One should achieve and maintain a healthy body weight and balance the number of calories consumed with the number of calories burnt."

Ram Babu visits constituency

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma on Friday visited his Rohtas Nagar Assembly constituency in East Delhi. After inaugurating development works, Mr. Sharma listened to the problems and complaints of the residents and instructed the accompanying officials to rectify them without delay. Besides inspecting work in progress at Loni Road sewer, he gave the go-ahead for construction of a drain and concrete work at the JJ Camp in Sri Ram Nagar.
