Coimbatore: A team of doctors is continuing examination of health condition and treatment of the Kerala-based People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader and the Coimbatore serial blasts case undertrial Abdul Nasser Maudhany in the Coimbatore Central Prison. The status of his health and nature of treatment provided are being reported to the Government on a daily basis. Mr. Maudhany was arrested on March 31, 1998 and was facing trial before the Special Court for Bomb Blast Cases here. He is said to be suffering from blood pressure, high blood sugar and disc prolapse. His right leg was amputated after he sustained injuries in a bomb blast in Kerala prior to his arrest and since then he is on an artificial limb. Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achutanandan recently met his Tamil Nadu counterpart, M. Karunanidhi, in Chennai and sought medical treatment for Mr. Maudhany on humanitarian grounds. For the last one-week, doctors from the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) have been attending on Mr. Maudhany and a four member team of specialists from Chennai also visited Maudhany recently. Hospital sources said a doctor in the rank of Professor of Medicine was visiting the prison every day to extend treatment and a five-member team is attending on him on alternate days.
