Kochi: The New York-based World Trade Centers' Association has nominated Justice K. Narayana Kurup, former Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, as its "Global Ambassador of Peace." This was announced by P.M.A. Sherif, Acting General Manger, WTC Doha-Qatar and member of the Association, at a press conference here on Saturday. In the citation, Guy F. Tozzoli, president of the Association, said that Mr. Kurup was a man of vision and dynamism with a long history of achievements and contributions to thinking, at a global level. The citation said that Mr. Kurup believed that war was not inevitable or peace unattainable. It was his firm belief that cooperation in trade between nations would go a long way in promoting better international understanding, the citation said. "He [Mr. Kurup] believes that dehumanised technological advancement does not augur well for mankind. This was amply proved in the U.S.-Iraq war," it said. Mr. Tozzoli said that Mr. Kurup was widely known as an important legal mind with a touch of humanism. It was his firm conviction that a pro-active judiciary could play a pivotal role in improving the lot of the common man besides moulding public opinion conducive to promoting international understanding, peace and security. He said that Mr. Justice Kurup's conduct "on and off the Bench had proved" his commitment to "the common weal of peace" among the communities of nations, a subject of top priority in the agenda of WTCA.
