CHANDIGARH: The National Capital Region Planning Board has sanctioned a new Rs.192-crore project to improve water supply and sewerage system in eight towns of Haryana - Rohtak, Panipat, Gohana, Hodal, Sohna, Palwal, Rewari and Samalkha. An official spokesman of the Haryana Public Health Department said here on Saturday that the project would be completed by February 2009. He said that under another Rs.71.54-crore National Capital Region Planning Board Project, water supply was being augmented in Gurgaon, Rohtak, Sonipat, Rewari and Jhajjar. Sewerage schemes were being implemented in Gurgaon, Sonipat and Rohtak. The project would be completed by October this year. Another project was being implemented to improve the water supply and sewerage in Hisar and it would be completed by January 2008, he added. The spokesman disclosed that under the Accelerated Urban Water Supply Programme, schemes had been approved to raise water supply status to 70 LPCD in 38 towns. The total cost of the project is Rs. 76.69 crores. While the schemes have been completed in 22 towns, these would be completed in the remaining 16 towns by the end of this financial year. Fifty per cent of the expenditure of the project is being borne by the State Government and the remainder by the Central Government.
