CHENNAI: Labour Minister T.M. Anbarasan will visit Coimbatore on June 30 and July 1 to study the working condition in the textile and plantation sectors. Mr. Anbarasan, who held discussions with representatives of employers and trade union leaders on Friday, said 75 per cent of the promises given by the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in its election manifesto would be fulfilled before the budget session. Tripartite meetings would be held once in three months to find solutions to industrial disputes. Labour welfare measures and issues relating to maintenance of industrial peace were discussed in the meeting, in which the Labour Commissioner, the Secretary, Labour and Employment, and other officials participated. The employers' representatives stressed the need for simplification of the labour laws, acceptance of the contract labour system and steps to take the ESI Scheme's benefits to the workers. The Minister assured them that their suggestions would be considered. Leaders of the Labour Progressive Federation, the Centre of Indian Trade Unions, the All-India Trade Union Congress, the Anna Thozhirchanga Peravai, the Hind Mazdoor Sabha and the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh took part in the discussions. The Minister assured them of speedy steps to resolve industrial disputes through conciliation. The labour welfare boards would be reactivated, he said.
