NEW DELHI: A special court here on Saturday reserved order till June 29 on the Delhi police's application seeking permission to conduct brain-mapping tests on Rahul Mahajan and co-accused Sahil Zaroo in the drug abuse case. Special Judge S.N. Gupta reserved the order on conclusion of arguments by Chief Public Prosecutor B.S. Joon and counsel for the accused. On June 22, the Delhi police withdrew their application for conducting narco-analysis tests, saying they would press for only brain-mapping at this stage. Earlier, permission was sought for both the tests to get to the "truth" of the case. On Mr. Mahajan's application seeking a modification in his bail condition, Mr. Gupta said he would hear the prosecution and counsel for the accused on July 3. Mr. Mahajan urged the court to allow him to stay in Mumbai as he had been asked to vacate his father's 7 Safdarjung Road residence here. Also, he was required in Mumbai to take care of his grandmother, a heart patient. The prosecution said that if the accused was allowed to leave the capital, there was the possibility that he would tamper with the evidence against him. While granting bail to Mr. Mahajan, Mr. Gupta had directed him not to leave Delhi without the court's permission. The two accused also moved applications for getting back their personal belongings Mr. Mahajan's cell phone and Mr. Zaroo's car seized by the police during investigation. The court would consider these applications also on July 3.
Rahul summoned by police
PTI reports: Sudhanshu Mittal and Harish Sharma, key aides of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, were questioned by the police in connection with the case. Mr. Sharma and Mr. Mittal, along with two domestic helps of Mr. Mahajan, were questioned by investigators at the Parliament Street police station here, their lawyer Ramesh Gupta said. Also, the police had summoned Mr. Mahajan, Mr. Mittal and domestic help Naresh for interrogation at the Tughlaq Road police station on Sunday. However, investigators did not confirm if they had questioned Mr. Mittal and the others, and also if they had summoned Mr. Mahajan on Sunday. Sources said Mr. Sharma and Mr. Mittal were quizzed on their role in cleaning up Mr. Mahajan's residence here and taking him to Apollo Hospitals on June 1. Mr. Sharma was arrested on June 6 on charges of destruction of evidence as police said he had ordered cleaning up of the room after the party where champagne and drugs were allegedly consumed. Mr. Mittal, who took Mr. Mahajan to hospital, handed over two plastic packets, found at his residence, to doctors who gave them to the police.
